The valley is a natural, narrow valley with a gurgling stream in the center; this is the most beautiful section of the trail.

A beautiful and peaceful hiking valley. With the current weather conditions (and actually always), you should be a little more careful because the stones and bridge wood are wet and slippery.

Beautiful place... but not without its dangers right now because of the fallen leaves... watch out!

Immediately after the railway underpass on the B42, you enter the gorge. It becomes quiet, and all you can hear are the chirping of birds and the babbling of the Pulsbach stream. The path is very beautiful, but in places it's very narrow and steep, requiring surefootedness. I wouldn't walk it if it's wet. Here, we also come across the signs for the Rheinsteig trail, which then guide us to Prath.

The Pulsbach not only has this one very beautiful waterfall, but also many other small and medium-sized waterfalls. In rainy years, like 2024 and winter 2025, there is a very audible splashing and murmuring here and it looks simply amazing. The steep cliffs are decorated with mosses and ferns, which are beautifully green even in winter. Simply a great tour along the stream!!

After the Wunschwasser waterfall, the route unfortunately does not continue above St. Goar at the moment. The hiking trail to Biebernheim is closed. You have to take the path directly to Rheinfels Castle.

To get to the "entrance" of Kühlen Grund, you first walk 900 m from the B42 / Forstbachstraße intersection on the sidewalk next to Forstbachstraße and then another 350 m without a sidewalk on Forstbachstraße towards Loreley. There is a little more space next to the road on the right-hand side heading out of town - but not much. At weekends or on public holidays, as well as during the season when many tourists drive up to Loreley, you should not necessarily walk there. At the "exit" you come to the K88, which goes up to Patersberg in a serpentine fashion. It is better to walk 50 m down the K88 to the L338, then about 70 m up towards Loreley on the road. There is a path that leads up to the St. Goarshausen - Heide district. From here you have the option of walking back down to St. Goarshausen via Katz Castle, via the "Elchweg", or via the Loreley plateau. In my opinion, this is the only sensible alternative for incorporating the Kühlen Grund into a tour. Sturdy shoes with a good grip are advisable for this section. There are a few wet, rocky areas.

Beyond the cascades themselves, the region offers diverse natural wonders. You can explore the rugged rock formations and slate next to the stream at "Wild-Weibchens-Ley" cave, or experience the 'jungle-like' atmosphere and wooden bridges along the Heimbachtal Waterfall and Wooden Bridges. The Pulsbach Waterfall is nestled within a beautiful gorge, offering a serene setting with numerous smaller falls.
Many waterfall trails in the Dörscheid area are considered intermediate. For example, the path to Pulsbach Waterfall is recommended for those with firm, handy footwear. Other areas, like the Heimbachtal, can have slippery wooden bridges and stones, especially when wet. Some routes, such as those near the Teufelsdell Waterfall, may involve descending stairs and crossing streams, requiring good fitness and sure-footedness.
The waterfalls can be enjoyed in every season. The Pulsbach Waterfall, for instance, is recommended year-round. In summer, gorges like the Pulsbachklamm offer refreshing coolness due to their shady forest environment. However, be aware that fallen leaves in autumn or wet conditions can make paths slippery, as noted near the "Wild-Weibchens-Ley" cave and in the Heimbachtal.
While specific 'family-friendly' designations aren't always given, many of the smaller gorges and waterfalls, such as those in the Pulsbachklamm, are described as easily accessible and offer a pleasant experience for families. The scenic routes with features like wooden bridges at Heimbachtal Waterfall can also be engaging for children, though caution is advised on slippery surfaces.
Given the varied terrain, sturdy shoes with a good grip are highly advisable for most waterfall trails. Some paths, like those through the Heimbachtal, feature wooden bridges that can be slippery when wet, so using handrails is recommended. Depending on the season, layers of clothing and rain gear might also be beneficial.

The Teufelsdell Waterfall also features a nicely designed resting place on a 'gallery' for tranquil viewing. The Pulsbach Waterfall itself is best viewed by lowering your gaze slightly from the path above.
