In 1866, a large state stud specializing in Holstein horses was established on the site, which became the most famous breed in the province. The large gardens and courtyards merged into the new function. The main wing of the castle was replaced by a simple new building, which was henceforth referred to as the manor house and served as the residence of the country stable master. Stables were built in place of the outbuildings. There were over 400 horses in them.
