Beautiful waterfall and a trail in very good condition. Only in this section there is no marked trail and you have to jump between rocks.

Seerenbach Falls and Rin Spring A natural spectacle near Betlis. With a drop of almost 600 m, the Seerenbach Falls are one of the highest waterfalls in Europe. At the same time, the middle waterfall, with a drop of 305 m, is considered one of the highest free-falling waterfalls in Switzerland. Immediately below the impact zone of the Seerenbach cascade, the Rin Spring emerges from the mountain and cascades over a 45 m high cliff into the Seerenbach River. The Rin Spring is one of the largest underground river systems in Europe. The water from the Rin Spring originates in the Toggenburg region and flows through the many kilometers-long cave system of the Churfirsten Mountains in just a few hours. During snowmelt and after heavy rainfall, up to 40,000 liters of water per second rush into the Seerenbach Gorge; during periods of low rainfall, the Rin Spring can even dry up. An impressive sight even in winter with little water. Be careful of breaking ice!

You should really come here when the Schreyenbach actually has water - this is only the case for 45 days a year, from June 18th to August 2nd when the waterfall can be admired in all its glory. (https://glarnerland.ch/de/map/detail/schreyenbachfall-d847ff81-2e0e-4fbe-8c5e-b68cbd4ce992.html)

Glarus offers several impressive waterfalls. The Berglistüber Waterfall is renowned for its unique feature allowing visitors to walk behind the cascade. Another notable site is the Diesbach Falls, a beautiful three-tiered waterfall particularly striking during snowmelt. The Waterfall at Lake Klöntal is also very popular, offering a shady trail and an impressive cold difference near the cascade.
Yes, several waterfalls in Glarus are suitable for families. The Berglistüber Waterfall is easily accessible with just a 5-minute walk from a parking lot. The Waterfall at Lake Klöntal also features a very easy and pleasant hiking trail along the lake, making it a great option for all ages.
Yes, you can! The Berglistüber Waterfall offers the unique opportunity to walk directly behind the cascade, providing a powerful and memorable experience of its force.
The best time to visit often depends on the specific waterfall. Diesbach Falls are particularly impressive during the snowmelt in spring when water volume is high. For the Schreyenbachfall, it's crucial to note that it only flows for 45 days a year, typically between June 18th and August 2nd, due to hydroelectric operations. Generally, late spring to early autumn offers pleasant weather for exploring.
Beyond the waterfalls, Glarus is rich in natural beauty. You can explore the dramatic Linthschlucht (Linth Gorge) with its turquoise waters and imposing cliffs, offering stunning views and hiking. The Waterfall at Lake Klöntal is situated by the picturesque Klöntalersee, and the Mürtschental Valley and Waterfalls feature a lovely raised moor and stone pines.
Absolutely. Many waterfalls in Glarus are part of or close to hiking trails. For instance, the Waterfall at Lake Klöntal has a shady hiking trail along the lake. You can also find easy hikes in the region, such as the 'Schiben circular hike' or the 'View of Lake Klöntal loop', which can be explored further in the Easy hikes in Glarus guide.
Glarus offers diverse outdoor activities. You can combine waterfall visits with mountain biking on trails like 'Längenegg' or 'Fryberg', detailed in the MTB Trails in Glarus guide. Cycling routes, such as the 'Linth River Cycle Path', are also available and can be found in the Cycling in Glarus guide.
Yes, for some waterfalls, parking is conveniently located. For example, the Berglistüber Waterfall is just a 5-minute walk from a parking lot near the former Bergli restaurant on the Klausen Pass road.
Beyond the main attractions, Glarus has unique water features. The Schreyenbachfall is notable for its controlled flow, only active for 45 days a year. The Mürtschental Valley and Waterfalls offer a scenic reward after an ascent, featuring a lovely raised moor and stone pines.
The Linthschlucht (Linth Gorge) is a dramatic natural wonder where the Linth River carves its way through rugged cliffs, creating a series of impressive water features rather than a single waterfall. It offers stunning views and exhilarating hiking experiences, with the Berglistüber Waterfall also being a significant sight within the broader Linthal area near the gorge.
While not directly in Glarus, the nearby Seerenbach Falls, visible from the Reutegg Viewing Platform, are among the highest waterfalls in Europe, with a drop of almost 600 meters. The middle waterfall alone has a free fall of 305 meters, making it one of Switzerland's highest free-falling cascades.
The Glarus region is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Tectonic Arena Sardona, showcasing significant geological formations. Near the Berglistüber Waterfall, you can observe older limestone (around 200 million years old) situated above younger shale (50 million years old), a clear result of tectonic overthrust.
