Vintgar Gorge

Highlight (Segment) • Gorge

Either early in the morning or late in the afternoon.
The canyon itself is beautiful, but during the usual "rush hour" tourists are busily bushland and the visit is not fun anymore ...

Entry to the Vintgar Gorge costs €10 (2024) and goes 1.6km along the water (helmets are compulsory, you get them at the entrance and return them to the hut after 1.6km). The route is easy: on footbridges and paved paths you go to the hut at the Sum waterfall, where there are snacks and a toilet.
After the hut you can choose between 2 tours for the way back: through the forests (+ 2.7km/90min) or through the Alps (+4.1km/120min). I chose the route through the forests and found it relatively unspectacular. Lots of uphill, sometimes you walk on the slope above the gorge, so you can hear the river even if you can't see it.

I would recommend hiking boots to everyone (no sandals, flip-flops or shoes without tread).

Colorful natural spectacle

Highlight • Waterfall

In the small town of Krnica you cross the Radovna over a bridge. Here the river flows over a small man-made waterfall. The color shines emerald green-turquoise in the sunshine and offers the eye a colorful natural spectacle! Beautiful to look at and worth a little photo stop :)

There are two portaloos by the climbing wall and waterfall viewpoint. The path continues on up a narrow gorge via near vertical metal staircases. Not for the faint of heart.
