This wetland reserve consists of newly created reed beds and ponds on the River Erewash, It's part of a larger area managed area, much of which is over the river and managed by Derbyshire Wildlife Trust as their Erewash Meadows Nature Reserve Aldercar is an important site for breeding and wintering wildfowl and wading birds. To avoid disturbance please view from the public footpath.

This trail travels beside the picturesque Moorgreen Reservoir. It's a great path for walking, jogging and cycling and you are afforded lovely views of the lake and surrounding woodland.

Alternative parking can be found here, either in the small car park or on the roadside if ther is no room at the start point. Colliers Wood is on the site of the old Moorgreen Colliery and has been turned into a small Country Park. It has a open air theatre, Wood carvings, a small pond that has quite a few Swans and Waterfowl on it and numerous gravel paths to walk on.
