Bear Creek

Highlight • River

Bear Creek crosses the Mesa Trail between the Bear Canyon and Mallory Cave trails. If doing a longer hiking loop, this is a good spot to filter water so that you don't have to carry so much at the start. There are several other small streams that you will cross on the Mesa Trail, but some are seasonal and others are not strong enough to refill your bottle.

A short walk from the large parking lot to Adam Falls. They are very easy to reach, and the path is well-maintained, although there are a few steps and rocks to climb. A circular trail has been created near the falls, which runs along the river.

A scenic route with beautifully lined paths lined with birch and aspen trees. Along partially rocky paths, it passes numerous lakes. These are framed by majestic mountains and offer a truly beautiful view.

The dam is holding back the South Platte River, slowly releasing the Strontia Springs Reservoir. Long horn sheep are bountiful in this area due to the close proximity to water and shelter.

There is a steep nontechnical ascent here near the falls. If you hit this trail heading southwest you will have generally steeper uphills and more rolling descents.

There is a charming stone bridge over Bear Creek that has small cascades flowing beneath it. Although power lines somewhat detract from its natural beauty, it is still a lovely spot to appreciate.
