The lake was dammed up to about 2 m in order to be able to use the water power that once powered a bone mill, a sawmill and a wooden shoe factory at the mouth of the Millingbæk.
The Slåensø is up to 12 m deep. It is fed exclusively by a few ochre-containing springs on the south side, at the mouths of which you can see swampy, red deposits in several places.
