Santos, our guide, is currently building his small hotel here - very lovingly furnished funcos with a great view of the Pico.

Good starting point for a mountain tour of the Pico do Fogo but also for other hikes. The complex itself has everything you need up here, after all the residents had to rebuild everything from the ashes. Don't expect a luxury resort. But you will meet friendly people and mountain guides who can tell you about the interesting history of the place and the island.

Here trees and large shrubs offer some shade and the path is much more varied than on the new road.

Hello David, I hiked in a group with a guide, but we also met a few “soloists” at Pico de Fogo. It is generally possible to go there without a guide, but the guides know the best ascent and descent routes and point out danger spots that are not always visible. In the event of an accident, they can also provide first aid or specifically request help.

Hello everyone, we would also like to hike there in a few weeks, but preferably without the via ferrata - where can you get to without equipment and/or a guide? Or does it not work without a guide anyway, we had read different things. Thanks in advance! LG

Share Felix' enthusiasm. Unlike usual, the descent is also a real highlight. When is it possible to run long distances with fine ashes? Pure fun! Another note: the temperatures at caldera level can go towards zero degrees at night. There is no heating in the accommodation there, and it is still very cool in the morning when you go up. onion look!

Nice little village in the Caldeira, where life has returned after the destruction by the volcano in 2014.
