On the south-western slope of the Wissberg, this path is crossed by several pretty waterfalls which fall into the valley to feed the course of the Aa d'Engelberg.

Best time to visit: The waterfall is at its most impressive in spring and early summer when meltwater causes the water levels to swell. It is also at its best after rainfall.

It is surprising that this section of the trail only has to be created by me as a highlight in 2023. The mountain trail does not impress with breathtaking views but with an incredibly beautiful landscape - forests, pastures, blueberry meadows and waterfalls. Before the hike, I was afraid that the proximity to the pass ascent would be very annoying - but the many streams drown out everything. The path itself is very varied over almost its entire length and is also good for children to walk on. Uphill requires a bit of fitness. If you don't want to walk back the same way, take bus line 162 between Hotel Steingletscher and the Gadmen-Obermaad campsite.

The Stäuber Waterfall, also known as Stäuben Falls, is particularly renowned for its powerful cascade and picturesque setting. It's considered one of the prettiest and most forceful waterfalls in Switzerland, especially during early summer when snowmelt increases its volume.
Yes, the Scenic forest and waterfall trail near Steingletscher is suitable for families. It offers a beautiful landscape with forests, pastures, blueberry meadows, and waterfalls, and is described as good for children to walk on, though some uphill sections require a bit of fitness.
The period between May and October is ideal for visiting the waterfalls. Late May is particularly recommended for viewing wildflowers in the meadows, and early summer is when waterfalls like the Stäuben Falls and Faulenbachfall are at their maximum power due to snowmelt.
For those seeking a more solitary adventure, the Faulenbachfall (Fulensee Wasserfall) in the Erstfeldertal is a more secluded and less-known option. Reaching it involves a longer hike, typically around three hours one way from Erstfeld, offering a rugged and untouched natural experience.
You can find a variety of hiking trails. For instance, the Springs and Waterfalls on the Wissberg Trail features several pretty waterfalls along its path. The Firnbach Waterfall offers a more challenging route, secured with a chain in parts, making it feasible even when the brook carries a lot of water.
Near the Stäuber Waterfall, visitors can find the Alp Äsch restaurant with outdoor seating. There's also a picnic area equipped with tables, a fire pit, and toilets, making it convenient for a longer stay.
While you cannot drive directly to the Stäuben Falls, they are reachable via a relatively easy one-hour walk on a service road (closed to public traffic) from the villages of Ribi or Unterschächen. For other waterfalls, accessibility varies, with some requiring longer hikes from Erstfeld.
The region around Erstfeld offers various outdoor activities. You can explore running trails, enjoy road cycling routes, or tackle mountain biking trails. For example, the Waterfalls Trail Below Fürenalp is known for its top single track, making it popular for biking.
