From times immemorial, White Stork has been considered a symbol of Lithuanian countryside, living next to people, therefore directly related to human environment and the way of life. White Stork is not only a part of the cultural heritage, reflected in our folklore, but also an inseparable part of the human-transformed agricultural landscape, i.e. important element of our country’s natural heritage. Therefore, White Stork is considered Lithuania’s national bird, sym- bolising harmonious coexistence of humans and nature. White Storks are not deterred by arable land if it neighbours meadows and pastures with fragments of wetlands – this bird is quick to adapt to and take advantage of human activities both in search for food and in building nests on homestead rooftops or in surrounding trees. After Lithuania regained its independence, and small-scale farming was re-established, favourable feeding condi- tions for White Storks were restored, while remaining farmsteads provided safe refuges for rearing the young. As a result, White Stork remained a common breeding spe- cies in Lithuania, its abundance surprising visitors from Western Europe, where these birds have declined heavily or disappeared altogether due to very intensive agriculture. Furthermore, while this species was declin- ing in other countries, in Lithuania it was increasing.

A very nice view from the harbor in Kintai. If you are interested in enamel art, you will find quite surprisingly in the place Kintai (Vydunas Centras) a nice international exhibition, as well as a space for the art of the "Kuren pennants", which can be seen in the area a lot (on houses more than on boats). The exhibition for Lithuanian very important writer Vydunas (with meditation room) would be but then only for the most interested.
