The copper statue Henry I, also known as Henry the Fowler, was a king of the East Frankish Empire from 919 to 936. He was born around 876 and died on July 2, 936, in Memleben. He was the first king from the Saxon line. The town of Arneburg was probably founded around 925 on a hill overlooking the Elbe River under his rule.

The phrase "don't pay the ferryman" doesn't apply here, as the ferryman (a very nice one, by the way) only demanded his fare once he was on the water, just like in the old days on the cable ferry in Mühlberg. It was a wonderful experience to cross again on a ferry like this.
