St. Mary's Church in Sörup, located in the center of the town, was built at the end of the 12th century and is therefore the oldest building in Sörup. The builder of the church was most likely the Danish king, who, as Duke of Schleswig and lord of the manor in Sörup, had the church built as a patron or manor church. It is assumed that the craftsmen had previously worked on the construction of Schleswig Cathedral. The church is built from carefully hewn granite blocks and has a rich interior. It is considered one of the most important churches in the region and was the model for numerous other church buildings in Angeln.

The St. Mary's Church in Sörup is considered one of the most beautiful examples of Romanesque architecture in Schleswig-Holstein. The church is located in the center of the town and can be seen from afar. The church or rather the church tower is very high, which can be seen from a great distance. The height is around 57 m. It is considered one of the most important churches in this region and was the model for numerous other church buildings in the Angeln region. And of course the church is the oldest building in Sörup. The St. Mary's Church in Sörup was built at the end of the 12th century. The construction sequence was as follows: "In a first construction phase, the apse, the choir and the nave were built. The nave itself was extended a few years later in the same style. The tower was built around 1500, with the original western portal being moved to the western tower wall. The tower cap was added around 1600. In 1710, the roof turret was added to the choir. Around 1830, the extension (at the entrance) was built on the south side." Like most churches in this region, St. Mary's Church is an Evangelical Lutheran church that has a lot to offer. Worth seeing is the Romanesque baptismal font from 1200, which is made of Gotland limestone. A holy water font also dates from the 13th century, but the triumphal cross in the chancel dates from the 14th century. The baroque pulpit is a little younger; it was made in 1663 by the woodcarver Hans Gudewerth the Younger from Eckernförde. https://www.schlei-ostsee-urlaub.de/data/schlei-ostsee-urlaub_1987.html

Here the path, after rain, is slightly muddy and slippery. In general, the path is littered with many twigs and branches.
