Mandi
August 6, 2026, The Old Dry Ski Slope

In 1987 a new ski and entertainment centre, called the Yeovil Alpine Village, was built off Addlewell Lane, on a 2.26 hectare site on the western flank of Summerhouse Hill. As well as an entertainment venue, the ski centre had one floodlit 110-metre Dendrix artificial ski slope with four jumps ranging between 0.3 metres and 1.8 metres in height. There were also two other learning slopes together with an electric lift and wheelhouse. Both the entertainment venue and the ski centre closed in 2007 but remained derelict for many years. Despite several suggested failed schemes for turning the centre into an arts centre, a hotel, the ski lodge was finally demolished in February 2017 but for the present the ski slope still scars the hillside. August 6, 2026, Wyndham Hill

Wyndham Hill, now bordered on three sides by concrete, development and car parks, lies on the immediate southern edge of the town with the River Yeo to its south. Now part of Yeovil Country Park, it always offers a quiet place to relax as more people tend to visit nearby Summerhouse Hill with its spectacular views. Crowned by its four lime trees, the summit of the hill is recogniseable from many parts of Yeovil. The lime trees were planted to celebrate Queen Victoria's Silver Jubilee in 1862, although the photographs below show considerably more than four trees at one time. Wyndham Hill was earlier known as Kingston Penn, Windmill Hill and Victoria Hill. It only got its present name in the 1890s and was named as such for the first time in the 1891 census.
