July 9, 2023, Caen Hill Locks

The Caen Hill Locks are one of the highlights of Route 4 on the Avon K Canal. Physically this is interesting. The water flows down the mountain, but the ship floats up the mountain lock by lock due to its own buoyancy.

This is a wonderful path from Devizes to Roundway, at the base of Walkers Hill. A tree-lined walkway, it's been a public right of way for 200 years although the path itself likely dates back at least 700 years, running through the Roundhill estate. If you park in Devizes, it's a great path to use to ascend the downs and visit the Millennium white horse.

Great place to stop for tea & cake, with fab view over the countryside and large outdoor seating area. Expect it to be busy on the weekends of course.
