Beautiful easy tour from the VL Guesthouse through beautiful landscape with great views into the valley and onto the plateau of Sanahin. The monastery is located very beautifully and is surrounded by several picnic spots (unfortunately the trash had not been collected yet...).

This remote fortified monastery with a restored church, spring and picnic shelter is mainly worth visiting for the lush, quiet valley it sits in.

Unique and affordable hostel in the very centre of the Debed Canyon, pretty much perfect as a basecamp for hikes in the area, especially if you're on a budget. Find it on the usual booking sites.

Sanahin is considered the most perfect monastery complex in Armenia. Legend has it that an important clergyman gave the monastery complex its name: San-a-hin. This means "that is older", older than Haghpat. So the dispute as to which of the two monastery complexes was the older was decided. The library is the centerpiece of the monastery and an absolute architectural gem. Outwardly inconspicuous, perhaps in order not to attract curious people and enemies with ostentation, the interior is unique in the whole of Armenia. The columns are all designed differently and are dedicated to theology, philosophy, the arts and mathematics. Those sciences that were taught here. The library identifies Sanahin as an important place in Armenian intellectual life.
