Directly on the street between the church and the bakery (Bäderstraße), next to a pleasant rest area, is stele no. 11, which commemorates the death marches at the end of World War II. From various concentration camps, prisoners were driven through Holstein to Neustadt, where they were transported to the ships Cap Arcona, Thielbek, and Athen (floating concentration camps). There, they were sunk along with the ships by British bombers. This human tragedy is highlighted at various locations. A memorial with more information is located in Ahrensbök.
