The Low Lighthouse of IJmuiden is a round, reddish-brown, cast iron tower designed by Quirinus Harder and built between 1877 and 1878 by D.A. Schretlen & Co from Leiden. The tower is 24 metres high and, together with the high lighthouse of IJmuiden, forms a line of lights that marks the IJgeul and the entrance to the harbour. The tower has five floors and 88 steps. The lighthouse was identical to the high lighthouse of IJmuiden that was built at the same time. However, in 1909 the top three floors and the lighthouse were removed and moved to Vlieland, where it serves as an independent lighthouse. It has had monument status since 1981.

Relics from the war. Lost places. Buried in the dunes. Understandable and sad. Never again

It's worth it after visiting the old positions in the dunes. Free entry. It's all understandable and sad. Hopefully never again.
