The National Theatre and Opera House (Romanian: Teatrul Național și Opera Română) on Piața Victoriei houses the Teatrul Național "Mihai Eminescu" and the Opera Națională Română din Timișoara. It has 711 seats and is a landmark of the city. The Palace of Culture uniquely houses four institutions: the Romanian National Opera and spoken theatre in three languages: Romanian, German, and Hungarian. In the right wing of the building, the German State Theatre Timișoara and the Hungarian State Theatre "Csiky Gergely" are located in a 100-seat theatre hall. This is due to the fact that Romanians, Hungarians, Serbs, Germans, Bulgarians, Slovaks, Jews, and Roma have lived and continue to live together in the Banat region. The building was constructed between 1871 and 1875. https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nationaltheater_und_Opernhaus_Timi%C8%99oara

Piața Victoriei (Victory Square), also known as Piața Operei (Opera Square), is a square in the present-day city center of Timișoara, a city in western Romania. It is considered the city's most famous promenade. During the Romanian Revolution of 1989, which led to the violent overthrow of the regime under Nicolae Ceaușescu, the present-day Piața Victoriei was a central site of the first mass demonstrations and bloody unrest. Among other things, revolutionaries delivered their speeches from the balcony of the opera house. Even today, bullet holes are still visible in the facades of the buildings to the left and right of this grand promenade. Next to the theater, a simple wooden cross, burning candles, and flowers commemorate the victims of the uprising. https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pia%C8%9Ba_Victoriei_(Timi%C8%99oara)

Architect Radu Mihăilescu explains that when implementing this project, he asked himself what meaning he should give the fountain. Based on the fact that several ethnic groups live harmoniously together in Timișoara, he considered inscribing each side with several first names. To connect these names as closely as possible with the city, he randomly selected Romanian, Hungarian, German, and Serbian first names from the 1990s telephone directory. The work's name, "The Town Twinning Fountain," expresses this long-standing reality of the Banat region and also commemorates the town twinning agreement between Timișoara and Karlsruhe, Germany, which was signed in 1992. https://maps.app.goo.gl/5rUT5WGm7ewi6vrt7
