The Orthodox Metropolitan Cathedral on Avram Iancu Square was built between 1923 and 1933, immediately after the unification of Transylvania with Romania. It is one of the city's most important religious buildings. The church is dedicated to the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. In 1973, when the eparchial see of Cluj was elevated to the rank of an archdiocese, the church became the archiepiscopal cathedral. Since 2006, the building has served as the cathedral of the Archdiocese of Vad, Feleac, and Cluj, which is also the seat of the Metropolitans of Cluj, Maramureș, and Sălaj. It is currently the third-highest cathedral in Romania after the Evangelical Cathedral of Sibiu and the Metropolitan Cathedral of Timișoara.

The Vălul Miresei waterfall is a 30 m. two-tiered waterfall of particular beauty, being the most representative waterfall in the Apuseni Mountains. The waterfall is located at a distance of 6 km from Răchițele village and the road up to it is perfect for a bicycle ride without any challenges. If you are cycling in the area, you are not allowed to miss this attraction. 🚲♥️

From the car park we go to the popular waterfall cascada Vălul Miresei. From there the path goes up on a gravel road for about 1 hour.

Rockfall is an ever-present danger in the Turzii Gorge. This somewhat macabre installation points out the risk more forcefully than any warning sign. It's a shame that one of the hikers who was "killed" by a boulder is already broken, which somewhat diminishes the illusion.

The second crossing of the Hășdate on the hiking trail is the bridge "At the washed-out hiding place". The suspension bridge swings noticeably, especially when several people are walking on it at the same time. From the bridge you can see the caves on the left bank of the river, which gave it its name.

For trails slightly outside the city, local buses or minibuses can often get you close to starting points, especially for popular destinations like Turda Gorge.
For strollers, paved paths or very well-maintained, flat dirt trails are best. Urban routes like the Matei Corvin Street – Cluj-Napoca City Hall loop are generally suitable. For natural settings, look for wider, less rugged paths, though many forest trails might be challenging due to roots or uneven terrain.
Spring (April-May) and autumn (September-October) are ideal for easy hikes in Cluj, offering pleasant temperatures and beautiful scenery with blooming wildflowers or vibrant fall foliage. Summer can also be great, but it's advisable to start early to avoid the midday heat. Winter hikes are possible, especially on lower elevation trails, but require appropriate gear for snow and ice.
While popular spots like Turda Gorge can get busy, exploring trails slightly further from the main tourist hubs can offer more solitude. Consider routes in less frequented areas of the Apuseni foothills, or explore local forest paths like the Liteni Fortress Ruins loop from Moara de Pădure during off-peak hours or weekdays for a quieter experience.
