Susanne Kraißer is known for her expressive, often life-size human and figure sculptures made of bronze (she studied, among others, at the Hochschule für Künste Bremen). Her works radiate a very special, calm, and often timeless elegance. On Spiekeroog, there are always temporary and permanent art projects in public spaces (often supported by the Kulturstiftung Spiekeroog). The sculpture "Lautlos" found its way there and was permanently purchased by the Kulturstiftung, thus becoming a lasting, popular work of art on the island. The title "Lautlos" fits perfectly with the atmosphere of Spiekeroog. The sculpture harmonizes wonderfully with the calm, vast island landscape, the rustling of the sea, and the silence of nature. It invites walkers to pause, let their gaze wander, and allow art and nature to interact.

The boardwalks on Spiekeroog are the perfect example of how nature conservation and holidays can be perfectly combined! Spiekeroog is a beautiful, car-free East Frisian island with a particularly nature-worthy landscape, located in the middle of the Lower Saxony Wadden Sea National Park. Here are a few exciting aspects of the boardwalks there: The protection of the dunes: Just as discussed, the wooden boardwalks ensure that visitors find their way to the beach without walking over the sensitive dunes or trampling the sand and plants (like beach grass). You are practically walking on stilts or wood over nature. Comfort: On Spiekeroog, the paths are constantly being modernized and widened so that they are more passable for all guests - whether with a handcart or a stroller. Prevention of blowing over: The elevated wooden paths also ensure that the sand on the paths can be better controlled and that the paths are not quickly covered by desert sand. A great experience: Walking along these paths through the dune landscape to the beach is often the first highlight of the trip: Dune roses bloom to the left and right, the wind whistles, you hear the roar of the sea - and you know exactly that you are keeping nature intact.

A six-meter-high bronze sculpture by Hannes Helmke is the new highlight at the Hermann Lietz School. At the main entrance, students and teachers are now greeted by two bronze figures on an oversized chair.

With head, heart, and hand, children and adults discover the special features of the "Green Island" Spiekeroog in the Wadden Sea World Heritage Site together at the National Park House Wittbülten. In addition to visiting the exhibition, the National Park House aims to introduce its guests to the special features of the Wadden Sea through nature-related guided tours, events, and an ecological café and shop. Since the summer of 2011, their educational work on the island has been complemented by a laboratory area that offers research and living facilities for scientists. Their guiding principle is to combine the reform pedagogical approach of the Hermann Lietz School Spiekeroog with research activities on the island and environmental education in the National Park. The Wittbülten National Park House features a modern permanent exhibition on the habitats of the East Frisian island. With numerous exhibits, installations, and interactive models, visitors can uncover the secrets of our World Heritage Site. Who knows how a dune island is formed? Or what beach grass has to do with island protection, why plants can grow on salt marshes, and what current developments threaten the island and the Wadden Sea. On the gallery, you can immerse yourself in the world of marine mammals: with wax in their heads, perfume in their intestines, hunted, protected, endangered... by sperm whales, seals, grey seals, and porpoises. The 10,000-liter aquarium system provides insights into the underwater world of the North Sea. Here, native fish and crustaceans that are otherwise hidden in the mudflats or the depths of the North Sea live.

From a viewpoint, you have a magnificent panoramic view of the characteristic dune landscape of Spiekeroog. On the horizon, the view of the sea is clear. The dunes visible originate from different time periods, with the older dunes already being over 400 years old. Incidentally, you can recognize the age of the dunes here by their coloring. It can be roughly said that the lighter they are, the younger the dunes are. There are four different types of dunes here: The foredunes (so to speak, the dune children), the white dunes, grey dunes, and brown dunes.
