Who doesn't know "the Ligerz Church"? After a stroll through the vineyards, visitors arrive at the late Gothic building and realize it's a church the size of Biel's city church. How did a community like Ligerz come to have such a large church? In 1417, the inhabitants of Schafis, Ligerz, and Kleintwann were granted permission to build their own chapel. In 1482, the small church was replaced by a large pilgrimage church, which, endowed with relics from Rome and a special indulgence granted by 15 cardinals, became a major attraction for the faithful. Between 1961 and 1972, the entire church was restored in several phases. Even today, the Ligerz Church remains a popular wedding venue.

The Taubenloch Gorge, stretching for almost 3 km, is a romantic gorge with steep rock faces, bridges, tunnels, and easily accessible paths. The Schüss River flows through the gorge. It originates in the St. Immertal valley and empties into Lake Biel.

A lovely restaurant with a terrace for a bike break or an aperitif. The food is also very good, but you should make a reservation.

Biel/Bienne train station The Swiss Central Railway (SCB) began operations on June 1, 1857. 1857 – 1877 Biel becomes a railway junction: 1st provisional train station from 1857 – 1864 at Zentralplatz. 2nd train station from 1864 – 1923 at General-Guisan-Platz. 3rd train station from 1923 at the current location. This means that Biel can finally become an industrial city. Text / Source: ATOR – Consulting, Reitschulstrasse 1, Biel/Bienne https://www.bieler-altstadt.ch/portfolio-item/industrielle-geschichte/
