Besides the Hase shaft, another mine shaft existed in the north of the Piesberg – the Stüve shaft. The coal mined there was transported underground, through the 1.5-kilometer-long Hase tunnel, by horses to the colliery railway station located to the south. The building, the remains of which have been restored, housed a water pumping machine that lifted the mine water flowing in from below.
