The Lüneburger Heide offers ideal conditions for a relaxing excursion with a nature experience. Combinations of heathlands and quiet resting places are particularly beautiful, for example in the Büsenbachtal or around the Totengrund, where well-signposted paths lead through the typical heath landscape and picnic opportunities with a view of the greenery constantly emerge.

The expansion areas of the Vogelmoor nature reserve are special because, together with the actual Vogelmoor, they form one of the largest contiguous birch-moor forest complexes in southeastern Lower Saxony. Between wet meadows, moor forests, and small moorland areas, many rare bird, plant, and insect species find an important habitat.

The "junction point system" in the district of Gifhorn is an intuitive orientation system for cyclists that originally comes from the Netherlands and Belgium. It enables cycling "by numbers" without having to constantly look at a detailed map or smartphone. Instead of memorizing street names or distant destinations, you orient yourself by numbers. A junction point is an intersection where at least three cycle paths meet. Each of these points has a unique two-digit number. At each junction point, there is an overview board (info panel) showing the current location and indicating which numbers follow next in which direction. On the route between two junction points, small signs with arrows point the way to the next destination point. The system in Gifhorn is not an isolated project, but part of a larger network in the Südheide and the Braunschweiger Land. This means you can easily cycle beyond the district borders, as the neighboring districts often use compatible systems.

The building is a typical functional building made of red brick, as can be found in many villages around Gifhorn and Wolfsburg. Characteristic are the large gate entrances (usually two), behind which the emergency vehicles used to be parked. In the days when the vehicles were smaller, they fitted in there perfectly - but for modern, huge rescue fire-fighting vehicles (HLF), it eventually became too tight. The active fire department of Ehra-Lessien has now moved to a modern, larger fire station that meets today's standards for changing rooms, technology and vehicle sizes.

The weather vane mast south of Lessien is a small, almost mysterious landmark that is easily overlooked if you pedal too fast. It is located on one of the most beautiful sections of the cycle path between Jembke and the Zollhaussiedlung Lessien.
