The Friedrich Monument on Landgrafenplatz in Friedrichsdorf is the listed Landgrafen Column, which commemorates the town's founder and namesake, Landgrave Friedrich II of Hessen-Homburg. The monument consists of a historical marble column and an attached cast-iron bust of the Landgrave. This bust is based on a baroque bronze sculpture by the famous sculptor Andreas Schlüter, the original of which is located in Bad Homburg Castle. The supporting column itself has its own unique history: it was originally made between 1825 and 1827 by prisoners from the Diez penitentiary from valuable Villmar Lahn marble and initially served as a sovereign border column to the Duchy of Nassau north of the Saalburg. The "grateful citizens of Friedrichsdorf" dedicated the monument to their founder in 1873 with the French inscription "A Frédéric II. Friedrichsdorf reconnaissant". However, before the monument found its current prominent place in the heart of the town, it went through a true odyssey: first, the column stood at the Schnepfenburg, was moved in 1937 to the "Weth" on Hugenottenstraße, and finally, in the course of a redesign of Landgrafenplatz in 1985, it was moved to its current location, where it has since been integrated as an eye-catcher in a small green space.

The Philipp-Reis-Haus at Hugenottenstraße 93 in Friedrichsdorf is the former residence of the German physicist and teacher Johann Philipp Reis, who invented the first functioning telephone here around 1860. Reis originally constructed his revolutionary apparatus as a demonstration object for physics lessons by combining a carved wooden ear, a knitting needle, copper wire, and a violin as a resonance body. With this apparatus, he succeeded in 1860 in the world's first electrical speech transmission, during which he transmitted the deliberately nonsensical sentence „Das Pferd frisst keinen Gurkensalat“ (The horse eats no cucumber salad) for demonstration purposes, to exclude mere guessing of the context.Although Reis successfully presented his invention to the Physikalischen Verein in Frankfurt in October 1861, his pioneering work was initially dismissed by contemporary scientists as an insignificant "toy". Only years after his early death in 1874 – and after the American Alexander Graham Bell had successfully patented a similar device – did Reis receive worldwide recognition as the true inventor of telephony. In recognition of this historic achievement, Friedrichsdorf officially bears the additional designation Philipp-Reis-Stadt.

Very nice path that you can race down very quickly on your bike, but be careful of the potholes and branches.
