There's a sign on the door saying "Restaurant for hotel guests only," but we still asked if we, as hikers, could get a coffee. A pleasant surprise: Very friendly staff, good coffee, and delicious, freshly baked waffles we could enjoy on the terrace. And our dog wasn't forgotten either, and he got fresh water from a clean, polished bowl!

The old cross stands somewhat hidden here. An information board explains it.

From here starts a Way of the Cross to the Marienkapelle Wahlhausen. The bronze sculptures on the wayside shrines were created around 1980 by the Adenau artist Gering.

The location of the church and the Michael's patronage suggest a pre-Christian place of worship on the site of the church (Schug). The church stands on the site of a castle belonging to the Counts of Hochstaden, which became the property of Blankenheim in 1282. (BAT 71, 203, Wackenroder). The wall body and cellar room of the sacristy probably go back to the castle chapel. A church is first mentioned in 1501, but is probably older. The nave, which was already described as dilapidated in 1687, was probably rebuilt in 1711, while the church tower of the previous building (1556?) was preserved (Becker). This has been replaced since 1923 by the mighty west tower (Schug), built according to a design by the architects Peter Marx and Peter Gracher (Trier). Builder: Marx, Peter (architect) Trier [1871-1958]; Gracher, Peter (Trier) Time:1501 Era:Renaissance Source: Cultural database Trier region
