The flowers in the nature reserve "Am Hintersten Berg" are not actually true bellflowers (genus Campanula), but rather bluebells (Hyacinthoides non-scripta, also known as woodland hyacinths or Hasenglöckchen in German). Due to their characteristic bell shape and blue-violet color, the area is locally nicknamed the "Forest of blue flowers" (Wald der blauen Blumen). The reserve, located in the Hückelhoven region (Germany), hosts such a dense and impressive bloom that it is considered unique in all of Germany.

There is only a certain access and view over the lake from the Ruruferweg. This runs over a narrow strip of land that separates the Rur from the lake. The lake shore drops steeply - no bathing bays, especially since bathing is forbidden. The lake of the former gravel works, operated until 2020, is designated as a nature reserve - including the shore zones. To protect the sensitive nature and waterfowl, strict access bans apply here. Bathing, recreational sports or leaving official, marked paths are forbidden. Buildings are visible on the opposite side (single settlement Grosskünkel) The historic castle complex no longer exists in its original form as a castle and the current residential and commercial buildings are privately owned. Attention: The path shown in Komoot to this area is not public, but the private former access road to the gravel works site.

First stumbled upon the heading of this highlight. I hadn't seen the Adolfosee in connection with the Schwalm-Nette Nature Park. However, an inquiry with Google AI confirmed this, and the nature park lists the lake itself on its website, even offering herb walks there. What I found even more interesting was the information that there are efforts to extend the park area further south in the future and to integrate the Rurtal valley in the Hückelhoven area up to the municipal border near Rurich, including the nature reserve with the bluebells near Baal. Likewise along the Wurm river to Geilenkirchen Source: Kreis Viersen https://share.google/WkFiPuwi1csUjz5fF

The "blue forest" near Dovern. Large areas of Atlantic bluebells bloom here in spring. This plant is protected.

Shortly before the actual bluebell forest in the NSG Am Hintersten Berg, you can already find isolated bluebells here.

I liked it a lot. You can sit very nicely and enjoy the view of the lake. Nice ambiance with a Mediterranean flair. Good opportunity for a break.
