“Habitat” was the title of the sculpture symposium at Donnersberg, which took place from August 5th to 26th, 2010 in Rockenhausen and Reipoltskirchen. The artistic direction was the MachART association, Schweisweiler. The symposium dealt with the topic of “space” in the broadest sense. The interpretations of the topic go far beyond the actual term “habitare” – to live. Rather, the participating artists look at people in space – in the midst of new technologies, advancing globalization, new social challenges – in the midst of a world in which all places seem to be within reach. How do people react to this? What methods do they develop to adapt to the changes? In the search for a possible answer, “Habitat” crosses the boundaries between art, architecture and clothing. Thematically, the symposium fits into the series of previous symposia in Rockenhausen. The 2006 symposium was entitled Space Illusions - Spacefakes and is part of the Rhineland-Palatinate Sculpture Trail. "Habitat" was a thematic and artistic addition to the park along the Alsenz in Rockenhausen and is also part of the Rhineland-Palatinate Sculpture Trail. The special thing about the "Habitat" sculpture symposium was that it took place across borders, namely in Rockenhausen (Donnersberg district) and Reipoltskirchen (Kusel district). Both sponsors, the town of Rockenhausen and the Kusel district, are committed to art and its promotion in rural areas. Five artists created exhibits on the topic in a rented industrial hall in Rockenhausen, using steel and plastics and ceramics. Stefan Engel, Christoph Mancke, Urs P. Twellmann, Winnie Schaak and Martin Schöneich were selected by a jury. Schöneich's and Mancke's works of art are in Rockenhausen on the sculpture path along the Alsenz, Engel's, Twellmann's and Schaak's works are in Reipoltskirchen at the Wasserburg.
