The Elfenstein is a striking quartzite cliff above Bad Harzberg. It is an attractive and relatively easy-to-reach hiking destination. The rock formation can be climbed with the help of a staircase. From the top, there is a good view of the districts of Bündheim and Schlewecke, as well as the adjoining northern Harz foothills. The Harly ridge and the Wöltingerode monastery are among the sights. A lovely short loop, with a great panorama from the Elfenstein cliff (a place of power) and along the Herrenweg trail. The lower Herrenweg is almost completely overgrown, which is a shame, as the path is fantastic. It should be used more often. (HWN 120). Total distance approximately 3.5 km.
