Tips from the Community

October 16, 2026, Malahat SkyWalk

Malahat SkyWalk is a paid attraction, but the views from the top are pretty impressive. The 10-storey Spiral Tower climbs gradually above the forest, with 360-degree views over Finlayson Arm, the Saanich Peninsula and surrounding mountains. There’s an adventure net at the top, and if you don’t fancy walking back down, you can take the 20-metre spiral slide instead. Admission also includes the TreeWalk and nature trails.

Don’t rush past the driftwood animals scattered around Malahat SkyWalk because they’re surprisingly detailed up close. Victoria artist Tanya Bub builds each one from thousands of individual pieces of driftwood, turning the natural shapes of the wood into Vancouver Island wildlife. You’ll find different sculptures around the Gathering Place, TreeWalk and Spiral Tower, including cougars, bears, an owl and a bald eagle, so keep an eye out as you walk.

October 16, 2026, Treewalk

The TreeWalk is a 600-metre elevated boardwalk that winds through the forest on the way to the Spiral Tower. At its highest point you’re about 20 metres above the ground, right among the Douglas fir and arbutus trees. It’s wide, gently graded and accessible for wheelchairs and strollers, so this section is more of a relaxed wander than a hike. Keep looking into the trees for the driftwood animals along the way.

The summit of Jocelyn Hill is not obvious because the trail wraps around it. However, the best views are found where the trail levels out and opens onto a rocky clearing that overlooks Saanich Arm below.

The break in the trees makes for a great viewing area as you look down at the Saanich Inlet.

Holmes Lookout is the viewing area on Holmes Peak. As you summit Holmes Peak, you will notice an opening off to the left; follow it out for incredible views of Saanich Arm and the Malahat.
