Venlo Hilton: On March 1, 1945, Venlo was liberated by the Allies. The Americans immediately renamed the airfield "Fliegerhorst Venlo" to "Yankee 55." Since the German demolition squads had destroyed almost everything, the Americans quickly erected a tent city, often mockingly called the Venlo Hilton. Nevertheless, its new inhabitants soon embraced all sorts of luxuries. The audio spot and further information can be found here: https://www.liberationroute.com/de/pois/592/venlo-hilton
