Glittertinden

Highlight • Summit

Once the highest mountain in Scandinavia, it now stands at 8,045 feet (2,452 m), which is the elevation without the remaining summit glacier.

In good weather, the ascent can be described as a physically demanding but technically easy hike. Further up, you'll have to walk on rocks and large stones, and then another snowfield awaits at the summit. This is no problem, as long as you don't get too close to the overhanging snow cornices at the summit or, in poor visibility, before reaching it. The descent to Glitterheim can then be completed largely on a toboggan, some of it up to 5,249 feet (1,600 m). Great fun :)

Besseggen Ridge

Highlight • Summit

The view of the lakes, from the ridge, is incredible so be sure to allow plenty of time for breaks. It's a demanding hike so you definitely need to be sure-footed.
If you hike the entire ridge, hopefully you'll find a place to stay overnight in Mermurubu.

Galdhøpiggen

Highlight • Summit

At 2469 m, it is the highest peak in Scandinavia. The normal route is a high-altitude tour over the Styggebrean (glacier) from the Juvasshytte, but the ascent from Spiterstulen is less complicated (3-5 hours each way).

Snøhetta, Stortoppen

Highlight • Summit

Of Snøhetta's major summits, Stortoppen is the tallest, towering to 2,286 metres (7,500 ft), making it the highest mountain in Norway outside Jotunheimen. The views from the summit are sensational, with many of the nation’s most celebrated mountain ranges clearly visible on a good day.

It's most often ascended from Snøheim or Reinheim and the hike along its east ridge is rocky, tough but not overly technical. It can also be ascended from Åmotdalshytta via its broad, north-west shoulder.

Knutshø Ridge

Highlight (Segment) • Summit

The Knutshø ridge is directly opposite the famous Besseggen ridge. At the parking lot on the street, the path is briefly described on a sign, but not marked. Since it is very busy in the summer, the path can be seen clearly.
It is sometimes steep, two passages have to be scrambled briefly, but are feasible without problems and without additional equipment. The views of the Besseggen, the Gjendesvatnet, and all the smaller lakes, and the surroundings are beautiful! It is best to finish the ridge on the other side and then take the path in the valley below the river back to the parking lot. This is how you avoid the climbing spots.

Skautkampan

Highlight • Summit

Skautkampan is a small peak rising to 4,734 feet (1,443 m).

Located at the western edge of the Skautflye plateau, it is the gateway to the vast Visdalen Valley. It also offers exceptional views of the glaciers of Galdhøpiggen, Norway's highest mountain at 8,100 feet (2,686 m).

Fantesteinen Pass Summit

Highlight • Mountain Pass

Fantesteinen (1434 meters above sea level). This is the exact name of the pass height of the highest pass road in Northern Europe. The RV 55 leads over the Sognefjell and represents the connection from inland Lom to the towns on the Sognefjord. The Sognefjell pass road is one of the most popular tourist roads in Norway and is visited by thousands of tourists during the open summer season. The pass road remains closed in winter.

Unfortunately, I have a fear of heights, and this section was quite challenging for me in places. But it was doable. You definitely need sure footing and must concentrate solely on the rock. Dogs sometimes have to be carried. We saw someone turn back on the hike with a large dog. Hopefully, you'll catch the last ferry or find a place to stay in Mermurubu. The views, even up to the ridge, are simply wonderful.

The top spot in Norway. Even in summer, there's snow there, and the weather can be really bad. But when it's sunny, you can see the surroundings so well. There are also small binoculars, and the hut is right next to it. A place I highly recommend. It's not easy to get there, but it's worth it.

The hike over the Knutshøe ridge is just as spectacular and challenging as the hike over the Beseggen.

A fantastic mountain with a 360-degree view. The path to the north is easy and, because it's steeper, easier on the descent (easy on the knees). I would recommend ascending via the newly constructed path with steps from the south. However, there are some very exposed sections. It's not safe in wet conditions or even snow/ice.

At 2,286 m, Snøhetta, Stortoppen, is the highest peak in Dovrefjell. Magnificent views. Here are a few practical tips: Starting point: The most popular route starts at Snøheim (a DNT hut), accessible by shuttle bus from the parking lot in Hjerkinn (in summer). Duration: Approx. 5–7 hours (round trip), depending on fitness and weather. Distance: Approximately 12–14 km total, with approximately 900 meters of elevation gain. Difficulty: Moderate to difficult. Not a via ferrata, but rocky, steep in places, and slippery when wet.

Rising to 7,500 feet (2,286 m), Snøhetta is the highest summit in Norway outside of Jotunheimen. In the summer months, it's a popular objective from the Snøheim DNT cabin.
