Easy hikes and walks around Łęczyca

When you are in the vicinity of Łęczyca, this one place is worth visiting. There is an atmosphere of antiquity and communion with history here. It features, among others, a beautiful Romanesque portal and polychromes, as well as monuments of sacred art from later centuries, mainly Gothic.

Monument to the Heroes of the Battle of the Bzura. A commemoration of those fighting in the Battle of the Bzura, erected by the market square. It makes a somewhat chaotic impression, but it's there.

Church of St. Andrew the Apostle. Consecrated at the beginning of the 15th century, the Gothic temple was later rebuilt in the Baroque style. Nicely renovated from the outside, it makes a great impression. Unfortunately, I could only see the interior through the glass, the doors were closed, but you can see that it looks beautiful inside too. I recommend seeing it if anyone has the chance.

The historic Market Square in Łęczyca with its neoclassical town hall from the late 18th century is the picturesque heart of the city, ideal for a stroll among historic townhouses and traces of the region's centuries-old history.

The Collegiate Church in Tum is a monumental Romanesque church from the 12th century, one of the most valuable monuments in the region; its austere structure, rich history, and picturesque location attract lovers of architecture and ancient history.

The Royal Castle in Łęczyca is a Gothic fortress from the times of Casimir the Great, today the seat of a museum and the legendary land of the devil Boruta, also offering a view from the castle tower.

Łęczyca was chartered under German law before 1260. The oldest brick town hall, mentioned as early as the late 14th century, was located – as archaeological research has shown – in the central part of the Market Square. The town hall was built as the seat of the mayor, councilors, the city court, the land courts, and the city archives. It also housed a prison and the city scales. The building also housed the executioner's axe. The date and cause of the destruction of the first town hall are unknown. A 1777 inventory contains information about the town's lack of a town hall, the town council meeting in private homes, and the storage of documents in the mayor's house – likely the reason for the 1787 decision by the Police Department of the Permanent Council to rebuild the town hall in Łęczyca. At the same time, the idea arose to adapt the former Jesuit church as the seat of the city authorities, but this was rejected due to the high costs of the conversion and the building's distance from the city center. Ultimately, architect Jakub Kubicki, the then city architect, decided to build a new town hall on the Market Square, on the site of the former municipal seat. He also prepared a building design and a detailed work program. This plan included involving residents in the construction work to reduce construction costs and sourcing bricks from the old city walls. The Łęczyca municipal seat was built with funds granted to the city by the king and thanks to the efforts of the residents. Construction work was carried out between 1788 and 1790. The first session of the town council in the new town hall took place in 1791.

Uroczysko Zieleń is a picturesque area in the Warta River valley, encompassing approximately 80 hectares of forests, meadows, and oxbow lakes. It lies within the Uniejów Protected Landscape Area and is part of the Natura 2000 "Middle Warta Valley" site. A 2.7-kilometer nature trail leads through its most interesting corners, featuring six life-size animal models with QR codes providing additional information. The trail is well-marked and takes approximately 1.5–2 hours. It's an interesting option for a leisurely stroll or a short stop on a cycling trip in the Uniejów area.
