Located just outside of Superior, Arizona, Picketpost Mountain is a popular destination for locals and visitors alike. In addition to the namesake mountain you can also access the Arizona Trail and L.O.S.T. Trail #221 from here.

Picket Post Mountain is located near the town of Superior. The name comes from a former military post that was located at the foot of the mountain. At the top of the mountain there is said to be a mailbox with a logbook of the mountain. At the bottom is the trailhead to the Arizona Trail as well as a trail register and toilets.

The Apache Tears Mine is a popular spot for visitors and families. The path to the area is easy, and you can extract black rocks from the cave walls. The rocks are called Apache Tears because according to legend, Apache warriors rode their horses off a cliff rather than die at the hands of the US cavalry.

Ayer Lake appears more like a pond. It's a main attraction for a lot of the animals that live in the Boyce Thompson Arboretum and is a great spot to view wildlife off the side of the trail.

The Apache Tears Mine has been called one of the most unique hikes on the planet. You have the opportunity to "mine" obsidian from the walls of cliffs and caves. The rocks are considered Apache tears in memory of the Apache members that died when the US cavalry took over the area.
