Great boardwalk through the salt marshes and great for spotting wildlife - especially several Osprey nests.

On your way to Grassy Bald, youโ€™ll pass through a natural rhododendron tunnel, one of the many found along the Appalachian Trail. It adds to the magic of the hike, especially when the branches are covered in pink blooms during spring and summer.

In late spring and early summer this trail has lovely wildflowers from wild blueberries, flame azaleas, to rhododendron. This trail is frequently windy and colder than lower elevations so it is good to wear layers on this trail even in summer.

On the first look it seems to be a unspectacular waterfall - but as the water runs down a rockslide for about 100 ft or so and ends in a shallow pool with a bank of sand it makes for a better experience than some of the larger waterfalls nearby. I highly recommend to make it an out and back from Macโ€™s Gap Trail instead of approaching it from Deep Gap Trail or Wilderness Falls Trail because these two are basically not blazed, very muddy, heavily overgrown, have a lot of spur/side trails and without App/GPS do have segments that are hard to navigate because of this. Furthermore you would need to cross the creek through knee deep water.

Great vantage point so you can see the waterfall from a sufficient distance

Excellent hike on a full moon night. Bring a jacket since it is almost always windy up there. My photo in the highlights is on a full moon night.
