Alex
July 22, 2026, Simcoe County Forests – Hickling Tract

The Hickling Tract is popular with hikers and mountain bikers, and the trails are a great place to take your dog walking as well. The protected forests span 40 hectares and were originally a farm owned by the Hickling family. In 1948, it was transformed into a public recreational forest and remains a popular recreation space.

Spanning 8.5 square kilometres of marshes, open water, bogs, and upland forests, the Tiny Marsh Provincial Wildlife Area is Ontario’s inaugural provincially managed wetland and a recognized Important Bird Area (IBA) for birdwatching and nature photography. 250 species of birds have been recorded here, including nesting ospreys, 11 species of ducks, and provincially threatened species like the Least Bittern and Black Tern. The site is explorable though elevated dike trails above the water, along with boardwalks, observation towers and an interpretive centre designed for wildlife viewing and education.

July 22, 2026, South Cell

A lot of the South Cell can be seen from a wide dirt road that traces the southern body of water's eastern edge. The road is built along a dike and is popular with bikers and hikers, with a flat, straight path to follow. There is little to no shade, so come prepared.

The North Cell is a small seasonal vernal pool surrounded by earthen dikes and wetlands. Tiny Marsh Provincial Wildlife Area does not have two formally named ponds. Instead, it is classified as a singular 600-hectare marsh complex feeding the headwaters of the Wye River.

April 8, 2026, Bear Creek

This small creek runs through the Ardagh Bluffs Natural Area with a couple trails that cross over it with small footbridges. Though only a small stream it makes a nice contrast to the dense forest and adds another essential element to the park.

This 6.4-kilometer loop offers a moderate challenge, winding through dense forests and open meadows filled with seasonal wildflowers. While the trail features some elevation gains, creek crossings, and a few sandy sections your reward is a quiet immersion in an "Environmentally Protected" zone teeming with local wildlife. There are many cross-trails that can lead you astray, so be sure to keep your komoot app open to stay on the right path.
