...at any time of the year it is a pleasant place. "The Malheira River Beach is very popular in the summer months with tourists from the region and surrounding areas, as well as local people. Located on the banks of the Homem River, it is considered one of the best river beaches in the region."

Did this route in summer 2014 and found it easy. Almost all is flat, except very small sections.

Maybe due to improvements, currently (2024) this route can easily be done with a gravel bike as well, specially in spring / summer.

The tour is classified by Komoot as “easy” and for beginners without special fitness or skills. That is certainly not appropriate. The route is very hilly with some short but steep climbs and descents at around 15 - 20%, partly on soft sand and gravel, which is difficult or impossible to manage with touring bike tires (push!), especially after rain. But it is a very beautiful route that is worth the effort!

Between Jolda and Ponte de Lima nice bike routes on both sides. Mostly dirt and gravel, a bit more bumpy on the southern side.

Best with a mountain bike. Pretty along the river. Watch for hanging blackberry vines from the trees.
