Great medium mountain with stunning views. The climb of the northern nose is strenuous but rewarding. If you are also taking in Hen Comb to the west then a crossing of Mosedale will be very wet underfoot

Its a tough old slog from Mosedale Beck. Older OS maps show paths that are no longer there. Views over Crummock Water and Buttermere - plus the Wainwright Tick - make it worth it.

Little Dodd (590m) is between Starling Dodd and Red Pike

The cairn is over the fence which has barbed wire topping it, but the actual spot height is on the opposite side to the cairn.

Approaching this mountain it makes you stop and admire the steep contour and shape. I said to myself "it is like a giant mole hill". Stunning to see.

The official wainwright point is underwhelming. A tiny cairn and you pass the best views on your way.

Like all the lakes and low level routes that are more accessible, expect it to be busy

Layered clothing is recommended, including waterproof outer layers, as conditions can change quickly. Even on easy trails, some sections can be uneven or rocky.
While Scale Force and Holme Force are well-known, the remote nature of Ennerdale means there are many smaller, less-frequented cascades and falls, particularly after heavy rainfall. Exploring the numerous footpaths within the 'Wild Ennerdale' project area can lead to discovering these more secluded natural features.
While Ennerdale Water is known for its clear waters, swimming is generally discouraged or restricted in the lake itself due to its status as a drinking water reservoir. Near waterfalls, conditions can be dangerous with strong currents and slippery rocks. It's best to enjoy the waterfalls from a safe distance.
