In the area of the Una-Sana Canton, the existence of 50 old towns has been established, of which remains still exist for 38 of them today. Fortified settlement sites have been identified in twelve locations, and traces and remains of noble towers, fortresses, palankas, and odžaks are found in several dozen more places. The largest number of these structures served their purpose during the Ottoman administration in Bosnia. The fortified structures in the Krajina region can be divided into towns, towers, and palankas. Larger fortifications housed military garrisons tasked with securing the border and repelling potential enemy attacks. In addition to military fortresses, Ottoman feudal lords also erected tall stone structures in which they lived and defended themselves as needed. Such structures were called towers and were built with several floors. Source: https://stav.ba/vijest/cuvari-zapadne-kapije-bosne/2391

Many come here to enjoy the beautiful nature and the charms of the Una, but few, like the Majevička brothers, jump from the magnificent Štrbački buk.

Near the 'Piskar' swimming area on the Una river near Ostrožac, on a small private meadow right on the riverbank, is this 'camp' without any facilities. The owner charges a daily fee for campers (the price is a few euros).

Caution! The wooden bridge over the river has been washed away! You can't cross to the other side! The riverbank is very slippery in places, but there are alternative routes.
