The origin of the wayside shrine is linked to a legend: The Röbersdorf church bells were taken from the church tower by the Swedes during the Thirty Years' War and were to be transported away on a wagon towards Erlach. The wagon got stuck in a marshy area at the edge of the village. Even with the help of 3 pairs of oxen, the wagon could not be pulled out. At the same time, the Swedes received word that Imperial troops were approaching from Pommersfelden, whereupon they fled. The Röbersdorf bells were saved and could be brought back.

The weathered wayside shrine, referred to by locals as „Weiß Marter“, was extensively restored in 1989 as part of the land consolidation. The resting stone located directly next to it served the rural population for setting down their carried loads during a rest and a silent prayer.
