The Esteval Windmill or Moinho Velho is located in the municipality of Montijo. It was built in 1826, as can be seen from the date on the inside, and was part of a large agricultural property called Quinta do Moinho Velho. This mill is an emblematic example of the mills known as those from the South of Portugal, with a fixed tower in stone masonry and a rotating hood by means of an internal windlass. It is a living testimony to the flouring processes that were once used. It ceased to function at the beginning of the 20th century after 75 years of operation, and its reconstruction was promoted by the Local Authority according to the guidelines of the Portuguese International Section of Millology. The architectural structure did not undergo significant changes, however the wind collection system and the grinding apparatus were replaced. The mill maintains the traditional grinding system in operation. It opened in 2000. (Source: Wikipedia)

Small wooden bridge prohibited to motorized vehicles. You can admire one of the arms of the Tagus and its magnificent landscapes. This bridge connects the small town of Sarilhos Pequenos which means small problems, to the town of Sarilhos Grandes which means big problems.

Samouco is a picturesque little town where the popular comedy series "Os Batanetes" was recorded around twenty years ago. The series takes place in Praça José Coelho and in some surrounding houses. "Dona Fifi's" hair salon in the series is currently a bicycle shop.

The beaches of Alcochete. These are river beaches of the Tagus River. The water is salty, hence the presence of salt pans right next to it. The water is less cold than the sea. The water is clean and you can swim in it. You can see on the other side of the river, Lisbon and the Vasco de Gama bridge. The Vasco da Gama Bridge is 12.3 km long. It is the longest bridge in the European Union and the 2nd longest bridge in Europe, the 1st being the Crimean Bridge. There is also a beautiful garden, cafes, restaurants, handling circuit, picnic park.

The "secadouro de Alcochete". Between 1930 and 1970, cod were dried there. Cod is a fish caught in cold northern waters such as Newfoundland. Portugal in the 1920s imported all the cod consumed. In the 1920s, Portugal experienced hunger. To remedy this problem, the former dictator Salazar had Portugal fish its cod and dry it industrially in Portugal. The secadouro de Alcochete was one of those places. Salazar popularized cod.
