In the 19th century, Supraśl developed thanks to cloth factories and the textile industry. Entrepreneurs, including German manufacturers, came to the city, building their fortunes here. One of the most important was Adolf Buchholtz, a wealthy manufacturer associated with the Supraśl textile industry. At the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, he decided to erect a representative seat that would emphasize his position and wealth. The palace was built between 1892 and 1903.

Beautiful church - stop for a moment

The most interesting part of the monastery is the "defense church" of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Originally built between 1503 and 1511, it was one of the few churches of its kind on the Byzantine periphery—architecturally combining elements of Western Gothic and Eastern Byzantine culture. On July 21, 1944, the church, along with most of the significant buildings in Supraśl, was destroyed by German troops. Reconstruction of the church, based on the preserved foundations, took over 30 years, and it was finally consecrated in 2021.
