The predecessor building was a half-timbered structure. It was severely damaged several times during the Thirty Years' War and, despite repairs (e.g., in 1661, 1669, 1682, 1713), became unusable. After long financial difficulties, the half-timbered church was demolished in 1774. The foundation stone was laid on July 16, 1774; the consecration took place in 1782 under Pastor Knöchel. The tower was not completed until 1790 (there were disagreements about its dimensions between the congregation and the sovereign).

On November 7, 1810, Fritz Reuter (1810–1874), one of the most important Low German writers, was born as the son of Mayor Georg Johann Jakob Reuter in the former town hall on the market square. The building served as the town hall until 1960 and has housed the Fritz Reuter Literature Museum ever since. In front of the entrance stands the Reuter monument, created by Wilhelm Wandschneider in 1911 (bronze casting on a granite base with reliefs of characters from Reuter's works). Since 1949, the city has held the honorary title of "Reuterstadt".

Stavenhagen was founded around the middle of the 13th century on the edge of the knight's castle Stove (first documented mention in 1230 as Stovenhage). The town received town rights between 1230 and 1264 (confirmation in 1282). The suffix "-hagen" indicates a clearing settlement. The market formed the center of the planned town from the very beginning. During the Thirty Years' War, the town was largely destroyed in 1648. Further severe damage was caused by major fires in 1727 and 1746. Afterwards, the current castle (around 1740) was built on older castle walls. The town hall at the market was built from 1783–1788 (or 1783–85); the town church was built from 1774–1790 as a neoclassical new building.

An approx. 10 km long, wild and romantic breakthrough valley south of Malchin. It extends approximately from Peenhäuser/Demzin to the area of Malchin (to the railway bridge north of the B 104).

The current building is a Gothic Revival replica from 1894, constructed on the site of the original two-story brick structure from the 14th century. It served as a prison until the 19th century and was severely damaged after a lightning strike in May 2024, which completely destroyed one tower and severely damaged the other.

As a break filler, while the car was being checked, I did a 10 km loop towards Ivenak to Klockow and back to Stemhagen. 80 percent of the route was paved, though.

The Stone Gate in Malchin is one of the four gates of the fortifications that once surrounded the town of Malchin. The current structure is a replica of the original two-story brick building with a fieldstone base and pent roof from the 14th century.
