The Dünenheide nature reserve on the island of Hiddensee is a 75-hectare nature reserve south of the village of Vitte. In the German Baltic Sea coastal area, it is the last large coastal heathland. It was designated a protected area in 1964, with a reduction in size in 1990. The area's condition is good, as management measures have helped to curb the encroachment of trees and shrubs.

Neuendorf is a listed double village, consisting of Neuendorf and Plogshagen, whereby Plogshagen only consists of a few houses but is the older core. The village of Neuendorf was founded shortly before 1700 and is rich in fishing history to this day. Directly at the entrance to the village is the "Lütt Partie" net shed, which Neuendorf fishermen have converted into a fishing museum. Here, visitors can experience the history of fishing up close. On a guided tour, you will gain first-hand insights into the hard life of a fisherman and the changes in the profession over time. The only paved road leads to the harbor, where you can still watch the fishermen at work. A detour to the "Groot Partie" net shed is also worthwhile. This building was erected in 1884 by the fishermen of the then net community and served as a net shed for repairing and storing nets, as well as a meeting place. Today, the "Groot Partie" functions as a museum café and venue for readings, cabaret, and small concerts. Neuendorf is also a popular starting point for hikes: an approximately 8-kilometer route leads to the long, fine-sand beach, past the Gellen lighthouse to the border of the national park's protected zone. The way back runs along the meadow and heath landscape, over Steinwall and dike back to the harbor of Neuendorf.

When the water surfaces of the Bodden freeze over in harsh winters, the last open water spots remain at this approximately 350 m wide narrow passage due to the current to and from the Großer Jasmunder Bodden, offering refuge to many water birds. The two old ferry piers on the north and south shores have been preserved and are listed as historical monuments.

Quite uneven! From time to time a bit of gravel was dumped there. Between Gellort and the lighthouses then wood chips/bark mulch (or whatever it's called), which greatly increases rolling resistance.
