Carwitz Village

Highlight • Settlement

The village became known through the writer Hans Fallada (actually Rudolf Ditzen), who could not decide to leave Nazi Germany and lived from 1933 to 1944 in a Büdnerhaus built around 1875 with his wife Anna Ditzen. His last resting place is after his relocation in the Fallada Park (former cemetery) in Carwitz. Today the Hans Fallada Museum with the Fallada Archives is housed in the buildings. In summer, the place, which is surrounded by the 3 lakes Schmaler Luzin, Dreetzsee and Carwitzer See, is a popular destination for tourists. From here there are many beautiful hiking and cycling trails to discover. The clear and clean lakes invite you to swim and linger on and by the water.

Lychen: Old Town and Historic City Gates

Highlight • Historical Site

Margrave Johann I founded the city in 1248. It was given a six-meter high city wall and three gate towers, only a few of which have survived in Fürstenberger and Stargarder Tor. In 1302 the city fell to Mecklenburg. 150 years later, Margrave Johann von Brandenburg recaptured the city. The Thirty Years' War (1618-1648) and two large fires (1648, 1732) destroyed almost the entire city several times. During the Seven Years' War (1756–1763) Lychen came under Swedish occupation. Parts of today's urban area were owned by the Himmelpfort monastery in the Middle Ages.

Fürstenberg/Havel

Highlight • Settlement

Very nice little water town. It is surrounded by the Schwedtsee, Baalensee and Röblinsee, through which the Havel flows. In the old town there are cobblestones, unfortunately the B96 is heavily used. The city lies on the Havel Cycle Route, the Berlin-Copenhagen Cycle Route and other regional cycle routes.

A nice place where you can linger for a while. A worthwhile destination for a tour or a detour beyond the main route.

Fürstenberg/Havel, also known as the water town, is located in the north of Brandenburg on the Oberhavel and is characterized by a large number of lakes, rivers and streams. The city is rich in historical and architectural attractions, such as the ducal castle, designed by Julius Löwe, and the town church by Friedrich Wilhelm Buttel. Another important landmark is the Ravensbrück Memorial, which commemorates the victims of the Ravensbrück concentration camp during the Nazi era. Fürstenberg/Havel is a popular tourist destination thanks to its location in the Neustrelitzer Kleinseenland. The city has benefited from tourism, which is an important industry, since the opening of the Berlin Northern Railway in 1878. The federal highway 96, which is busy and runs through the town center, connects Berlin with the Mecklenburg Lake District and the Baltic Sea coast. Cyclists and visitors can enjoy the city's idyllic surroundings, historic attractions and hospitality. The marina offers an excellent starting point for water sports activities, and the surrounding lakes are ideal for relaxing boat trips and swimming. There is an e-bike charging station in the city, which is particularly useful for cyclists. Local restaurants and cafés offer culinary delights and invite you to take a relaxing break.
