A highly recommended hike. There's plenty of parking (extra touristy 🫣😅). Restrooms are also available, and they were quite clean. The signage is a bit outdated, but if you have a cell phone or something else with you, you'll find your way easily. The route is quite challenging; the first 1.5km involve a good 200 meters of elevation gain. The view, however, is simply stunning. Anyone who wants to see wildlife will definitely get their money's worth here. We saw several mountain goats, vultures including their nests, and various other small animals. The highlight is the chapel, which unfortunately was somewhat damaged when we visited. We definitely recommend this route and consider it a must-do for anyone in the area or on Crete.

From the gate you can observe the vultures in their nests if you have binoculars.

I would highly doubt that you can see mountain goats. They are stray domestic goats (αδέσπωτα) that cause serious damage to the landscape (and economy), a major problem in almost all of Crete.

The well-secured path leads through a great rock gate.

There is a great motif at the gate around midday when the sun is just above it.
