The monastery has been destroyed several times and is always rebuilt. With EU funds, more than just security measures could be implemented by 2020. Currently, a monk lives on site who grants admission. At the entrance, cloaks are available to cover bare shoulders, cleavage, and uncovered knees. It remains a holy place.

On the E4 from Litochoro to Prionia, three of the wooden bridges over the river have now been destroyed, as of early October 2025. With little water and a bit of skill, you can still cross dry. With a lot of water, it becomes difficult. Officially, the road is closed due to the broken bridges. These are located approximately halfway between the two endpoints.

As of today, September 2024, at least 3 wooden bridges have collapsed. The path is also officially closed with a sign between Litochoro and Prionia. We walked it anyway, as it is relatively easy to cross when the water is low. But do this at your own risk!
