The legend of the hare depicted on the "SiebenSchussStein" (Seven Shot Stone), which survives the shots of seven hunters unharmed, also gives its name to the dialect group "Sibbeschuss".

The hiking highlight documented here is already in the forest called Kottenforst. It is reached on the fifth stage of the Roman Canal hiking trail, which leads from Rheinbach over around 23 kilometers to Bornheim-Brenig. The previous route was - apart from the villages of Lüftelberg and Buschhoven, which had to be crossed - exclusively in open fields. This offered beautiful views, but also very little shade on a warm summer day. The coolness of the forest is therefore very welcome to the hiker here.

Even in the sections of the Roman Eifel aqueduct to Cologne, where the masonry was mostly broken down in the Middle Ages, individual sections of the route have been preserved. Although the excavation shown here only allows a glimpse of the vault above the pipeline channel, it nevertheless reveals a special feature of Roman long-distance pipeline construction north of the Alps: the pipeline, which was built in an open trench, had to be covered with a layer of around one meter of soil after the structure was completed. This ensured the frost protection required in our latitudes. Source: https://www.roemerkanal.de/bauwerk
