Hens Castle is a historic country house in the Belgian municipality of Wuustwezel that currently serves as the town hall of Wuustwezel. Construction period: The construction of the castle took place between 1910 and 1912. Client: It was built on commission from the widow Hens, who desired a stately residence that reflected her prosperity and standing. Architectural style: The building was designed by architect Jaak Alfons Van der Gucht in a Neo-Flemish Renaissance style, recognizable by the use of brick and sandstone. Repurposing: Since 1926, the castle has been used as a town hall, after the previous town hall had become too small.

This canal is ideal for observing locks and taking great photos. It always reminds me a little of the Canal Saint-Martin in Paris – where there are also many locks in a very small area. Of course, they differ in their surrounding landscape.

The Dessel-Turnhout-Schoten Canal is a canal in the Belgian province of Antwerp. It connects the Bocholt-Herentals Canal in Dessel with the Albert Canal in Schoten. Construction of the connection between Turnhout and Schoten began in 1854, but it took until 1875 for the canal's entire length to be completed. The elevation difference between Dessel and Schoten is 25.70 meters and is overcome by 10 lock complexes, all located on the Turnhout-Schoten section. Lock 2 in Brecht measures 50 m x 7 m and allows ships to overcome a drop of 2.51 m. At the end of World War II, in October 1944, heavy fighting took place here – this was one of the launching points for Operation Pheasant, aimed at liberating the province of North Brabant. Both the Allies and the Germans would lose thousands of soldiers during this operation.
