When I came to live here as a child in 1975, it was a quiet village with mainly chicory farmers (the classic method or soil culture instead of the current water culture) and two residential areas. Today it is a much more built-up municipality in the ever-expanding periphery of Brussels. But the many beautiful heritage and the equally beautiful nature of Silsombos have remained after I left again somewhere in the late 80s. And those who haven't done so yet, of course, also want to wander in the fields where the planes land above your head - and sometimes take off. The name Erps comes from Querbs, the origin of which is somewhat less certain, Kwerps comes from Quarebbe or 'bad piece of land'. Two parishes, two churches, easy to combine in a beautiful day walk. And comic book fanatics will certainly want to visit the Hof ter Bruggen Castle domain, located between heritage, which appears under the name Rattenkasteel in one of Nero's most grim comics of all time, "Het Rattenkasteel".

This is the only place for a snack/drink we passed on our walk. And it was closed.
