Authentic hedgerow that was created by humans in the late Middle Ages. During the reclamation of the 'wastelands', the embankment served to protect the arable land against drifting cover sand from the Soester Duinen. That cover sand was deposited during the last ice age, the Weichselien, against the flanks of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug. The Utrechtse Heuvelrug itself is a push moraine that originated about 150,000 years ago due to ice pushing ice in the Saalian.

This is not a moraine, but an authentic hedge. It was constructed by humans in the late Middle Ages. During the reclamation of the 'wastelands', the hedge served to protect the farmland to its north against drifting sand from the Soester Duinen. That sand was deposited during the last ice age, the Weichselien, against the flanks of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug. The Utrechtse Heuvelrug itself is a moraine that originated about 150,000 years ago from ice pushing up during the Saalian.
